We also filmed the proceedings and Costa Botes wove his magic directing and editing wand and created a film so groovy it was selected for the July 2008 Wellington Film Festival. The first screening was on JULY 26th at the PARAMOUNT THEATRE in WELLINGTON. The next 2 screenings were at the Film Archives. They were all well attended and had great reviews.

| | |  | | | | | Auckland Folk Festival NewsWednesday, January 30, 2008Hiya folks
2008 Auckland Folk Festival is all over now baby blue... I was treated really well by the committee and got a big enough caravan to seat all my friends for rehearsals. I had the main marque for two shows and great audiences.
I had great feedback from “Songs from the Ash Grove” workshop - people loved hearing about those old days and I played the blues and picking songs just right. It was Lester's birthday too, which added to the occasion – good man!
My own Concert was Sunday and it was very very hot temperatures- about 30+ degrees and no wind. We had a full house. Lester and Richard did a fine job alongside me floating the songs into a new realm of sound.
The final concert was fantastic- big crowd - big vibe. The on stage sound was perfect for the songs - 2 of mine and 2 covers. We finished with my new single 'Power of the people' (which is for sale at $5 a pop. They are going fast - email me if you want one.) Owen Hugh and Lester sang BVs. we ended with a bang and Pacific Curls picked up where we left off and raised the roof.
Love to you all
Carol

| | | | | MovieFest - National Video Awards 2007Tuesday, October 30, 2007I performed a song and told some tales for the MovieFest National video awards, sponsored by Apple Mac and Amstore, that were held at Expressions Theatre in Upper Hutt. It was quite the expereince.
While I was singing, a movie of myself in real time was being projected on the large screen behind me. The audience didn't know where to look. It was a laugh! A big thanks goes to Graeme Moffett for organising the event and filming it all.
Cheers
Carol
| | | | | October 20-22 Wellington Folk Festival '07Saturday, October 20, 2007Carol Bean and The Mount Misery Bluegrass Band played a rousing set at the Wellington Folk Festival in the SOUTH OF THE DIVIDE concert Saturday between 5:00-6:30.
The spirit and joy of bluegrass is alive and well in the foothills of Wellington’s Mount Misery! This group of rowdy layabouts first came together to play for the Wellington Bluegrass Society (WBS) and had such fun that they decided to carry on being miserable together. Carol Bean's aim is to ‘bring the blues back into bluegrass’ with the Mount Misery boys: Richard Klein on fiddle (Ar-Kay Cajun Band), Andrew Delahunty on mandolin (Windy City Strugglers), Costa Botes on banjo and slide guitar (Accidental Tourists), and Andrew Bicknell on the double bass (WBS president). | | | | | SOUTH OF THE DIVIDE 30 Sept 2007Sunday, September 30, 2007This was the 2nd South of the Divide concert for 2007. The guests included Paul Symons, Martha Louise and Micheal Young all from Auckland. They call themselves MMP.
Then we had Richard Klein, Wayne Mason, greg taylor, Bob Silbery and Kevin Ikin in the Winston Memorial Cajun Band. Lara Collins Band kicked off and Carol Bean's Blue Highways - the swamp version- finished the night. It was a really fun afternoon/evening. Thnaks to all for making it a sold out event!
Where? The Irish Hall on Fifeshire Street- off Cambridge Tce. Wellington 4 - 8pm | | | | | | | | Acoustic Live - SEPTEMBER 12Wednesday, September 12, 2007What cool gig this was! The place had a great club almosphere, it's a great venue run by Ian and Moira Campbell - "Acoustic Live" at Coasters Musical Theatre in Paraparaumu (15 Hinemoana Street)
Carol played a handful of soulful songs on her newly electrified Martin 0021, and then brought Lester to the stage for that blues harp and Richard Klein on fiddle. The acoustics were good- sound system good and there was a greatly receptive audience.
Quote from Peter Dyer "I couldn't help notice that, as usual, you seemed quite comfortable and natural in front of an audience. It puts everyone at ease-as you know, it's a cyclical thing, feeding on itself.
I also couldn't help noticing that the guitar sounded very good. I think your pickup is right for the job-at least between that and whatever Ian was doing. Nice warm, round tones and the right level. The sound was just right, voice and guitar, in front of the speakers."

Te Rangi is a wonderful venue. Nestled in the countryside of Hawkes Bay it is a box canyon farmlet and each year about 100 keen musician gather to share their new material. | | | | | Wild Women of WellingtonThursday, December 21, 2006On December 21st Carol and a group of blues women performed at the WILD WOMEN OF WELLINGTON concert presented by the Capital Blues's Roomfulla Blues night.
Guests: Laura Collins, Carol Bean, Marg Layton, Karen Clarke, Kayte Edwards, Gillian Moorman and Blanche Rawiri.
Oh yeah!! These stroppy sheilas WERE as wild as a southerly off Cook Strait as well as musically gentle and sexy as a bluesy breeze.
Cindy Muggeridge played her heart out all night long on keys along with the absolutely Wellington top notch house band: Nick Granville-guitar, Richard Te One-drums, and Elliot Fuimaono-bass. Man was that band HOT!
Great photos to come. | | | | | South of the Divide highlightsSaturday, September 30, 2006The legendary SOUTH OF THE DIVIDE Concert was SOLD OUT a week and a half before the September show.
The line up included:
* Laura Collins & friends
* The Shot Band
* Carol Bean & friends
* Red Dog Saloon Band
With the bar in full swing, a "Tex-Mex" dinner, and lot of dancing and some hootin 'n hollerin to cheer on the musicians, the crowd had a grand time. I heard many positive comments and people left the venue smiling.
My highlights were
*having Blair Latham come back from Mexico and play that great sax for me again on Moana Jane and on Downstairs Blues
* having the place dancing like crazy to "Saying No" while Lester and John blew it out on their harps
*singing Driving Lessons with Mike Petrie and Laura Collins both belting out the backing vocals- what a lucky woman I am!
*and playing my Gretsch Duo Jet and being in love with it- sorry Lester.
Big ups- go to Laura for her great charisma and organisational efforts yet again. Give that woman a medal! | | | | | Tahoralofa lava- SamoaThursday, September 07, 2006Talofa lava!
Our recent trip to Samoa with eleven musicians was a dream holiday. We spent one night on Upolo and then took the ferry across to the larger island of Savai'i. Once there we travelled by taxi van north to the village area of Manase and settled in to Regina's Fales for an eight day jam session. Primary purpose - R&R.
Regina's, situated on a pristine lagoon with coral reef, had their own skiffle band of keen musicians who joined us for evening sessions. Guests from far and near came to listen to the music and enjoy the great vibe. Some of them even bought our CDs. One night we were treated to a wonderful evening of dance and song from the staff at Regina's. This was called a "Fia fia" and we all happily joined in and danced with them.
In Apia, the capital of Samoa and main city of Upolo, we played music more formally for two evening events on the outskirts of town for some very special people. (see the shout out from Bev and Mike in the Guestbook) Samoa is a beautiful place that exudes a rhythm and sound of its own that is unique.

| | | | | California DreamingSaturday, July 08, 2006In California, on July 1 and July 8 Carol sang and played her songs at gigs with two separate bands.
July 1- Terry and Don's wedding. "
My sister's wedding and what a good party! The highlight for me was singing my song 'Being in the right place' with my two sisters and my two daughters singing backing vocals. Also it was a blast playing 'Freeze Frame' to a dance floor filled with party goers all singing along to the words and playing 'frozen statues' at the right points in the song!
The band had been practicing along to my CD and they did a great job. Thanks guys.
July 8- Palmdale, Los Angeles.
This gig was at the Painted Horse Ranch and all of my good friends from many years back came to support me and enjoy a good party together. The band's engine room consisted of John Metcalf on bass and Jim Rudnick on drums. These guys have been playing since high school and are the grunt behind the best surf band in the Bay Area at the moment. They played some stunning surf tunes and then I got up and began a set off the Read the Road Signs album. It was hotter than the hot sun.
Thanks guys for putting in the effort and providing the driving back-up to me and my songs. Gotta tell ya - it was like driving a stagecouch of wild horses!!
I love you! So did your adoring fans.
